In September, Studio InTo designed a pop-up experience space for the shoe brand FOOT INDUSTRY at CPI Precinct, Luxe Lake, Chengdu. Sited on the precinct’s primary circulation and backed by a slope, it forms part of a main-street commercial cluster. The design introduces a quiet, rustic handcraft space into this minimalist modern environment, under the core concept A Box of Craftsmanship Within a Small Realm.
Shaped like an opened shoemaker’s box with a restrained exterior and open interior, the space avoids ornate decoration and serves as a warm backdrop for exhibits. Charred cedar eaves and native trees create a street-side grey space recalling old Chengdu street shops. A transparent glazed facade opens to the main path. Three shoe walls surround a central island to form looping circulation, built upon a consistent grid framework.
Local Shu paper delivers a soft ambiance; a custom curved Shu-paper pendant light acts as the visual focal point. The facade retains the grid language. Contrasting interior and exterior materials create dialogues of solid-void, hard-soft, warm-cool, strengthening spatial layers and identity.
